Microdermabrasion is a skin resurfacing and regeneration treatment achieved by removing the top layers of dead and dormant cells using a stream of natural crystals. Crystal microdermabrasion is considered the most effective method for skin exfoliation because of predictable results for all ages and skin types. SmartPeel microdermabrasion offers perfect exfoliation with no crystals or exfoliated skin left on the client. The following text and pictures is a brief presentation on microdermabrasion with the SmartPeel. We are not describing a required approach, but only approaches that have proven to be successful with the SmartPeel. If you feel that you need additional information or training in microdermabrasion treatments, we suggest there are books and training seminars that would be complimentary to your needs.
Cleansing
Cleanse the skin using a botanical face wash, removing all traces of cosmetics, skin oils, and any other contaminants from the skin. Superior exfoliation is conditional upon clean, dry skin.
Drying the Skin
Using a soft facial tissue pat the skin to ensure that it is dry. Without exaggeration, it is absolutely essential that the skin is totally dry before exfoliation. This includes the skin and the hand piece if the hand piece is exposed to any liquid disinfectant. It is suggested that only the treatment end (approx. 2 inches) of the SmartPeel hand piece is put into a beaker of disinfectant for cleaning between treatments. Make sure the hand piece is totally dry before reusing. We further suggest that you use a second hand piece on a new treatment while the previous hand piece is becoming completely dry.
Microdermabrasion
Exfoliation starts when you close the vacuum flow by putting the opening of the hand piece on the skin. Lifting or removing the opening of the hand piece from the skin will stop exfoliation. It is suggested that exfoliation begin at the forehead and working downward keeping the skin taught at all times with the free hand. Experience will dictate the pattern of exfoliation and the type and condition of the client's skin will determine the strength of treatment.
Please refer to the next graphic of microdermabrasion for other exfoliation suggestions. We also have a comprehensive video on microdermabrasion included with the SmartPeel.
Microdermabrasion
Your treatments can be progressively aggressive by:
-- Increasing the crystal flow
--
Longer treatment strokes
-- Slower treatment strokes
-- Treatment strokes in two directions: top to bottom, left to right
CONVERSELY, you can treat less aggressively by:
-- Decreasing the crystal flow
-- Shorter treatment strokes
-- Faster treatment strokes
-- Treat in one direction only, preferably top to bottom.
Around the Eyes
Microdermabrasion around the eyes is a combination of the skills of the operator and the unique features of the SmartPeel. The SmartPeel leaves no crystal behind so no eye wear is required. With the SmartPeel, you can choose the lowest setting of crystal and vacuum settings which are appropriate for this very delicate treatment.
We also have a SmartPeel hand piece that has been specifically designed for this treatment. This hand piece has a very small opening which further controls crystal and vacuum flow by limiting the amount of skin pulled into the opening of the hand piece. If you do not have access to a hand piece with the small opening, we suggest that you use the standard hand piece but use very short strokes (1/2 inch) and use the feathering technique described in microdermabrasion manuals.
Second Cleanse
Cleanse the skin to remove any remaining microdermabrasion debris. Re-hydrate with a serum or collagen and lock in with a moisturizer.
Acupressure Massage
Refer to SmartPeel manual to locate the ideal acupressure points on the face, neck, and shoulders. Resting the massage wands on the skin, manuver the wands around the acupressure points for ultimate relaxation. After massaging the acupressure points, slowly massage the entire face to achieve maximum client satisfaction.
The acupressure massagers help promote absorbtion of topical products while stimulating micro vascular circulation. This treatment tones the skin and helps to tighten the facial muscles.
Red Lights
Resting the wands gently on the skin, move the wands over the entire face with a special emphasis on areas that require additonal treatment. The ideal exposure is ten minutes. While your client does not have to wear protective eyewear, do not shine the light directly into the eye.
Red wavelengths have anti inflammatory benefits, stimulating the dermal layers create fibroblast activity for collagen and elastin production.
The Spa model has two red lights of one watt each. Red light is proven to have anti-inflammatory benefits and helps the toxin removal process.
Blue Lights
Resting the wands gently on the skin, move the wands over the entire face with a special emphasis on areas that require additonal treatment. The ideal exposure is ten minutes. While your client does not have to wear protective eyewear, do not shine the light directly into the eye.
Blue wave lengths have a huge influence on the elasticity content of new cell growth, the proven antibacterial effect on the skin helps control bacteria and reduce spots. The smooth heads of the LED’s are passed over the skin paying particular attention to the problems areas.
The Spa model has two blue lights of 1 watt each. Blue light is proven to have an antibacterial effect on spots and problem skin. When used in conjunction with red light the benefits are dramatically increased.
